A Brief History Of La Jolla

La Jolla’s rich history goes back for hundreds of years. It is said that Spanish settlers named the land La Joya ( The Jewel), later taking on the name La Jolla. It was incorporated in 1850. After a few failed attempts to develop the land in San Diego County, the real estate boom in 1881 gave way for speculators Frank T. Botsford and George W. Heald to successfully develop this coastal paradise. The city solidified its reputation as one of the most desired vacation spots and home to most affluent after the Railway was extended to connect La Jolla to San Diego.

In twentieth-century, La Jolla saw great development from the construction of the renowned Bishop’s school to the Scripps Institute of OceanographyBirch Aquarium and the University of California, San Diego.

Today it is famous for the picturesque beaches, home to of “seal beach” and attracts an elite buyer market with a mild Mediterranean climate and hillside, coastal view properties.

Selling real estate in this quaint community can be very exciting and rewarding as home median prices garner a higher commission check for agents.  This is just one reason our agents are raving about the 100% Commission Brokerage – Big Block Realty.
