4 Ways: How To Add Value As A Real Estate Agent
Follow our 4 suggestions below to learn how to add value as a real estate agent.
1. Telling a Story
Telling a story is the #1 rated suggestion by marketing experts. The Digital Marketing Institute explains how today’s consumers are tired of sales pitches and promises.
In fact, storytelling increases the value of a service or product by over 20 times. How? By telling your brand story really well.
The marketing platform, HubSpot, explains a brand story by recounting events that sparked your business inception and expressing how your brand continues to drive your mission.
In a Nutshell: A brand story is a simple narrative explaining how your unique way of doing business helps clients. An example is: “I helped a seller with …”
Tip: Viewers love reading about adversity, conflict, and emotional journeys. An example of a too-simple brand story is, “I became an agent to help people.” Ho, hum.
Instead, explain how you helped a first-time home buyer solve a big problem like poor credit, little money for a down payment, or inability to get a mortgage. How you solved the problem will keep your viewers engaged.
Avoid painting a rosy story like, “All my clients bought homes they love”. Instead, use a clever example like:
“Last month a new client cried about a low credit score preventing her from buying a home. I sent her a link to a great article from my broker Big Block Realty about “How To Raise Your Credit Score Fast”. After reading it, she raised her credit score by XXX points in a month! Yesterday, her mortgage broker gave her a Pre-Approved Mortgage letter. Now she’s ready to buy her first home”.
See how a viewer is captivated by a real-life problem-solving story?
Tip: Think about your past problem-solving success stories. Write a story about it for your blog and website.

2. Answer FAQs
A web page dedicated to answering important questions provides value. Potential clients like first-time homebuyers, sellers, or people relocating to your area will appreciate the answers.
As a real estate expert, you can write and answer questions easily. A web page dedicated to essential FAQs separated between buyers, sellers, and those considering relocating is worth the time.
For example, I recently helped a Realtor by researching national moving companies’ sites with an online moving cost calculator from one major city to another. He picked a user-friendly one for his FAQ page and saw increased views as a result. Relocators want to know the costs of moving to your area. Give them the answer.
Here are links to three nationwide moving companies whose websites provide easy calculation of moving costs from one city to another:
Or, if your client wants to Do It Yourself (DIY), suggest U-Haul to see rental costs depending on the type of truck needed and the distance.
Value: This shows off your expertise and willingness to help potential clients.
3. Promote a Free Service
Many Realtors use a Free Home Valuation tool or a Comparative Market Analysis (CMA) on their websites. Instead of doing what your competitors are doing, get creative.
One of my Realtor clients uses a Free Online Home Equity Calculator that lets viewers find out their home’s current estimated value and how much equity is based on past payments.
The beauty of the program is that it affiliates a link back to the Realtor with the results allowing future contact regarding what the homeowner can sell for and how much profit is available for the next home purchase.
This results in lead generation of future home sellers who will want to buy a new home too.
This program is called Homebot and its benefits include listing:
- Estimated current home market value;
- Appreciation gain or (loss) since the home was purchased;
- The home’s current net equity;
- Paid principal and interest breakdown;
- Estimates available cash to take out;
- Estimated rent for the property if the homeowner wants to rent it; and
- Tips on how to save on future interest payments (new mortgage or refinancing).
Real estate agents benefit from using Homebot to deliver personalized actionable insights using the agent’s branding (name and contact information) to track home equity wealth as it builds. When homeowners see how much equity and profit they can make if they list with the agent now produces new listings.

Stand out from your competitors’ sites. Take advantage of cutting-edge techs like 3D images of layouts, floor plans, and virtual home staging. Add a little WOW factor to your site by featuring them for your leads and viewers.
Instead of using normal photos of every room in your listings check out 3D tours. Why?
Eye Spy 360 reveals that 75% of surveyed potential real estate buyers claimed a strong preference for interactive virtual tours over typical photos.
Two independent studies cited on Matterport.com show listings with 3D tours sold generally at a, “9% higher price and 31% faster”.
Here are the leading companies letting you produce 3D virtual tours
Let you create 3D home tours. Your potential home buyers can walk through the entire property with a dollhouse view. Also, it includes a full floor plan. For a fully immersive experience, you can use 3D goggles.
Free plans with limited options or you can choose monthly plans from $10, $69, or $309 per month depending on the number of listings and your needs.
An extra benefit is to use an iPhone or 360 camera for a greater experience.
Lets you create 3D virtual showings of your listings so your buyers can navigate a home tour at their own pace.
Monthly subscriptions start at $45 or your can pay for an annual subscription for $495 (saves you $45). Also, besides the monthly plan, you need to buy a Ricoh kit (a Ricoh Theta V camera and a camera stand).
This service lets you hire a professional to do the entire production. Or, you can do it yourself (DIY) using a smartphone camera or 360-degree DSLR to capture images and convert them into virtual tours.
Their Free plan has limited options or you can pay different monthly plans based on your needs.

How the RealScout Program Helps Buyers and Sellers
Big Block Realtors take advantage of our unique RealScout program helping buyers and sellers. How?
Buyers: Our RealScout program lets buyers quickly find local MLS listings based on what features the buyer wants instead of basic property features.
Sellers: RealScout helps home sellers by making it easier to match the listing with the preferences buyers want about home features. Also, when new listings are uploaded onto the local MLS, its Rapid Listing Alerts notify our Realtors about potential buyers’ matches. Plus, it makes setting viewing appointments easier for our buyer’s Realtors to set up with the listing agent.
